Energy Smart

Windows, doors and skylights that earn the ENERGY STAR® save energy, improve comfort and help protect the environment. In recognition of this, residential energy property tax credits (aka the “Non-Business Energy Property Tax Credits”) have been retroactively extended from 12/31/2017 through 12/31/2020.

To qualify, windows and patio doors must be ENERGY STAR® qualified for the region in which they are installed.

Homeowners may claim 10% of the product cost (not including installation). Homeowners may claim no more than: $200 for windows and skylights; and up to $500 for patio doors. The aggregate amount of the credit is limited to $500. Products must be installed in the taxpayer's primary residence. New construction is not eligible. A taxpayer is ineligible for the credit if the credit has already been claimed in any previous year.

How to qualify for the tax credit

  1. Purchase Revere windows or patio doors with a qualifying BarrierXP® Insulated Glass Package. A qualifying insulated glass package will be any glass unit that enables the window or patio door to achieve the required U-factor and SHGC of 0.30 or lower.
  2. Purchase and install qualifying products during qualifying time period and meet all other criteria outlined in the federal tax code.
  3. Retain sales receipts and all NFRC, ENERGY STAR, and Manufacturer Certification labels and file with all other tax documents.
  4. Claim the tax credit associated with your qualifying purchase on your federal filing.
